Search engine promotion case study - Breeze Volkswagen

The Problem

Despite having a professionally designed and editable website, Breeze VW still needed to promote themselves effectively in the major search engines so that potential buyers could find their way on to the site and enquire about the new and used cars on offer.

The Solution

By conducting some keyword research and analysing the main needs of the business, we worked to develop a comprehensive list of keywords which potential customers would use to find the site. Investigation led us to work towards a selection of this list so that our online promotion efforts were focused in several key areas.

Key phrases

We worked to promote the main Breeze Volkswagen website on the top three search engines; Google, Yahoo and MSN. Here are the key phrases targetted, the postions we achieved along with the competition of the phrases (as of 1st November 2005).

We also achieved some unexpected results during the three month promotion period which saw the Breeze website get to number three for the terms 'volkswagen' with over 21 million competing sites. It even ranked above the official Volkswagen homepage www.volkswagen.com. Here is a screenshot from late August 2005

The results

  • Increase in sales nationally and locally
  • 15% month increase in website traffic over a seven month period
  • Web traffic increase under generic (e.g. volkswagen), specific terms (e.g. silver golf tdi 1.9 se 2002) and non company name terms (car parts dorset)

Project Timescale

We worked with Breeze Volkswagen over a three month period to rework areas of the site and to build in keywords which were identified from our research. The results were realised during this period and the site continues to maintain these high search engine positions to this day.
